2012 LEGO Friends Minidolls

reviewJasna Bronić MiklinComment

I got my hands on all of the 2012 LEGO Friends minidolls basically just so I could analyze them. And try to mix & match their outfits.

To my actual surprise, I learned a few things about the dolls while examining them. Most of the insights are fairly minor thus I did not put them into the video. But I can mention them here.

Olivia's pink torso in 2012 looks very similar to the torso she wears in later years. Upon a closer inspection of my minidoll parts it turned out I had only 1 of the old prints and I needed 2. The same thing happened with Stephanie and Emma. That’s how the Bricklinking began.

Let me tell you, getting parts form 2012 in “new” condition is not easy. Especially if you want to order several of them from the same store to save on shipping.

Eventually, they arrived. And with them came some other parts, because if you think I’m not going to empty that store of cheap minidolls you are mistaken. So I’m sorting them and I have a “What is this?” moment. A quick Brickset check reveals that Mia had a different colored shirt printing as well.. Luckily, at that point I had 2 of these torsos in my hands, and 2 of them was all I needed. Yes.

A problem that was more of a frustration than a problem was Andrea’s hair. In 2012 she had a hairstyle that slightly changed in 2015. My frustration with that is that Bricklink counts both of them as the same hair piece. I had to look closely at all of the photos to make sure I used the right one. Fortunately, I had already spent a fortune on Andrea minidolls so I had more of them.

Most of the legs pieces needed for the assembly of these dolls I have at home in 2 variants. One molded in one color with the skin and the shoes printed on and the other dual molded with only the shoes (and decorations) printed. My guess is that LEGO started with the single molded legs and then at some point switched to the dual molded ones. But again, Bricklink doesn’t make the distinction, leaving me with no way to track when the change occurred.

I tried to use only the single molded legs, but I decided I will not let that torment me in this nor the future videos, so don’t be too surprised if I at some point I’m not too consistent with that ;)

LEGO Batman Series 2 Dollify

new videoJasna Bronić MiklinComment

It's a three part series. The first one is themed around the "Friends are Family" party,

and in the second one I explore who some of the characters are.

There was a fair amount of googling involved and some painting. I even added background noises! I'm almost like a pro now.

Anyhow, the trilogy is not done and I still have many personal things to take care of this week, so I'm gonna go and work on the video instead of writing about the done ones.

LEGO Sia

The Pop Stars are coming.

Just very slowly. Like zombies.

This is another one of those videos I've been working on since forever. If forever means somewhere around 7 months. What took me so long? I have no idea. Or, maybe I do, it just doesn't make any sense in retrospect.

I originally wanted to publish the first Batman video this week. But guess what happened? There were more things to do than I anticipated. So there was no way to get the video done until Saturday. And then I remembered this gem and figured I could revisit if it's doable. And it was! I was so happy and relieved that even all of the other life stuff didn't stop me from completing it.

When will I dollify another Pop Star? I have no idea. But at some point, I will.

Video firsts:

  • prepared for it 7 months and got it done in 3 days
  • included the work of another adult in my video (the wig my Little Brother made)
  • used a drill to drill a minipin hole into the hairpieces
  • for the first ~10 h of the videos published life, it didn't have cards or an ending screen, 'cause I forgot to set them up

Fun at the Beach

new videoJasna Bronić MiklinComment

I set out to do a quick dollify video. Today, I published my longest video ever.

That just proves I'm still very bad at estimating how long something is going to take me to do. It's mostly because I start with a simple project in mind and then expand it far beyond what is manageable in a week.

I have a love-hate relationship with that part of myself. I hate that it doesn't let me make a quick video and I love that it forces me to make better videos.

I'm quite proud of this video (despite its many flaws) and now I'm thinking about should I make a similar thing with the Batman Series 2 figures? And should I make 2 shorter or one super-long video? So many things to decide..

Firsts I did to have fun on the beach:

  • I let my daughter choose what to put in the thumbnail (I did give her some limitations and have guided her in the way I wanted it to go)
  • I tried to incorporate a story into the dollify video to give a reason as to why I dollify stuff in the first place

MDs vs MFs: Head On

new video, general updateJasna Bronić MiklinComment

The head is important. We need to know how to use it.

And the neck. Everything related to the head is extremely important. I should know - I have one.

Although it doesn't seem to work as well for the past month. That's also why I'm 98% sure there will be no new video published next week. I need to sleep.

I'm working on so many things ATM that I get lost. I'm also rethinking everything including what I want this blog to be moving forward. I've already redesigned the site and added the "Newsletter Sign Up" box. Other changes to the BrickoMotion "brand" are to come.

Harley Quinn's Outfits

new videoJasna Bronić MiklinComment

I planned this video for the Summer. Of last year.

Needless to say that I obviously needed quite a few months more to make it happen. Why now? 'Cause the Friends line came out with a new character Vicky. She has black sporty pants with red sneakers and the greatest facial expression LEGO has produced so far.

Those two things screamed Harley to me and I had to finally finish the video.

What's new for this video?

  • I had only a script draft, but I don't sound lost on the recording
  • I've introduced a new "style" of thumbnails (characters have a black border around them to increase their visibility) that I might roll out to some older videos as well
  • The editing process was super fast, due to me being more experienced and having settled for a slower pace of the video (gotta break that 10 min mark!)

Fun Fact: I have worked over 14h this Saturday to get this video published.

My 50th video

new videoJasna Bronić MiklinComment

And almost a 20,000 subs special ^^

I truly want to do a special at some point, but not now. Maybe at 50,000 subs? We'll see. I'll definitely do one at 100,000 subs, but I figure I still have some time till we get there ;)

For now, I celebrated with some cake :D

This is the second video in the Minidolls vs. Minifigures series and I tried to do it a bit differently from the first one. Many months have passed since I worked on this topic, and both my writing and filming have evolved since then. But I wanted the videos to still feel like they are a part of the same series, which was a bit of a challenge. And time will tell if I succeeded at that.

And I simply had to change the title and the thumbnail from the Size Matters video. Because consistency.

Nightmare Night

new videoJasna Bronić MiklinComment

What a fright!

I had something sweet to bite after I published the video :D

I love designing new outfits for minidolls. I just do. I like making videos, but what gets me excited the most is figuring out how to pull something off. And this video was full of such challenges.

I originally wanted to do a Disney Princess Halloween video, but then lightning stroke me: it should be a My Little Pony Nightmare Night video. And that was it - I had to make it. And to make it, the My Little Pony Equestria Girls video had to be done too. So I got to work and the last two videos are the result (I'm not counting Sunset Shimmers video 'cause it's still not done).

I'm pleased with what I've done and it really gave the channel a big boost. Like an all-time-high-and-then-some boost. If it weren't for the head lice I would be extremely happy right now.

I already know what the next video is going to be - Minidolls vs. Minifigures: Head On. I just need to plan it and do it. Easy peasy. I know it won't be a big hit, but it needs to be done and who better to make it than me?

My Little Pony - Mane 6

new videoJasna Bronić MiklinComment

How in Equestria...

... are Pinkie Pie's feet not touching the ground?

The process of painting these started many months ago. Since then I changed both the way I paint and my character design multiple times. None of that helped me with making these sooner.

Why does Twilight Sparkle have a darker skin tone? Why do the others have a lighter one? The decision for that can be traced back to the planning of this video. I wanted to minimize the painting involved, AND I thought it would be silly to translate all of the girl's skin colors into only one. That is how I decided that Twilight and Sunset Shimmer will have a darker skin tone.

I have ambitious plans for the rest of the year and I really really want to make them happen. So I should better get to it! After I prepare today's lunch, that is.
