crafting with and around LEGO minidolls

Stickers & Capes

new videoJasna Bronić MiklinComment

With sparkles & shine.

It was supposed to be a short, quickly filmed & edited video. Then, once again, I decided to make my life more complicated.

I figured, there's no point in just showing you the capes - the minis need to wear them. And the stickers need to embellish the bricks. So, the filming process took longer. Not "painting the whole Doctor Who cast" longer, but longer nevertheless.

This was the first time I:

  • Spoke while filming in the lightbox
  • Showed an organized collection and what I use the pieces for
  • Made a 15+ minute video
  • Put an additional add in the middle and on the end of the video

Currently, I'm visiting friends & family and running some errands in Croatia. That means there will be no video this week and that's the reason this blog post is so late.

Greetings from Croatia! May you not be as exhausted as I am.

Face reveal!

Because not even I knew what my face looked like!

I don't get the YouTube craze about face reveals, but I needed a video ASAP so this is what you got.

I'm going to Croatia with the kids for a week and I didn't want the channel to suffer so I planned ahead. Maybe a bit too much, seeing as I made more progress on the future videos than on the immediate one.

All of this means that we are entering a short era of "quickly" made videos. Just so I could get some paperwork done and see friends & family.

Despite the rush to make this video, I've incorporated some firsts into it:

  • set "reviews"
  • how we play with the sets
  • I talked to the camera while filming - no extra audio editing

Happy Heartswarming!

new videoJasna Bronić MiklinComment

I just came back from the cinema. We watched The Last Jedi.

What does that have to do with My Little Pony? It happened on the same day I published the Heartswarming video. So there. And also, I loved the movie, and people seem to love the video. That's all the connections you'll ever need.

A holiday-themed video was on my mind for a very long time and I have finally found a way to make it happen :)

Back to the movie. I am now really inspired to dollify Episode 8, but in order to do so, I need to dollify Episode 7 first. And I already have January and February filled with videos. And that's if I manage to publish a video every weekend.

Urgh, I have problems. I better get back to modeling and painting everything for the Episode 4 part two video. It is proving to be a lot harder than expected. I'm not happy with that development.

Happy Heartswarming everyone!

May Favourites

I have found a way to share LEGO related news from my personal life that is easy to film & edit and is not boring.

Yay for me! :D

But in all seriousness, I have struggled with this question for quite some time now. I thought about doing a speed painting video, but that would be a pain(t) to film. I wanted to do an unboxing video of my bricklink purchases, but I hate unboxing videos with a passion. I was searching for a way to include my daughter's builds into my videos, but everything I thought of was too .. something.

Until now.

I believe this to be the perfect mix of everything. And I intend to do a video like this every month. We'll see how long it lasts :)

Doctor Who dollified

My bottom still hurts from the long painting marathon.

12 hours of painting in just one day. It was not ergonomic and I discovered I could have been sitting on a pillow when it was already too late. I will not be doing such a painting session ever again.

Ok, maybe for Star Wars. And My Little Pony. But nothing else!

At least I think it was worth it. I love how some of the minidolls turned out. And according to the first comments and likes - other people think it was worth it too.

I wanted to do this video since forever and I'm glad I can check it off now.

Harley Quinn's Couch

This vehicle is completely hilarious. To me at least.

I had to finish some personal stuff this week, so it's once again short video time! It still gets me completely by surprise how quickly these come together. I don't even have time to have a mid-video crisis.

So I even had some spare time this week! And I used it to edit the Black Widow Mighty Micro video too. Now I hope to have enough time to finish my LEGO Ideas project. I really want to have that up before we move.

What move? Well, in a few months we are moving to Berlin. There's still soo much to do but I am happy as a child making a mess - mostly because I'll have a dedicated LEGO room there! In my case, that means a princess/fairy land with a ZOO, playground, swimming pool.. I can't wait to get building!

The Contraption

The not-so-secret sauce of my dollify videos: the Contraption.

This part has changed how I dollify. It has pushed the limits of what is possible and I'm so used to it in the meantime that it has become a standard tool in my toolbox. I've even used it to secure a wobbly spiral in my micro version of Atlantica.

I didn't have great hopes in regards to views for this video, so I was pleasantly surprised when it got around 25k views in the first 48 hours. I'm very  curious as to how it's numbers will progress.

The Mighty Micro's line made by BrickoMotion continues.

I make these videos for 2 reasons: to show off what I made and to make it easier for me to maintain a one video per week schedule. Because there is no way I can produce a 7-minute dollify video every week. I would love to, but I can't. So I need some short and sweet videos to fill in the gaps.

I expect this video to be slightly more popular than the Penguin one, but nowhere near the views that Poison Ivy's outfits video is getting. And I'm ok with that :)

Not every video needs to be a hit, but I have to have fun making each and every one of them.

Penguin's Penguin

The shortest video in quite some time now, all for the purpose of maintaining a regular posting schedule and a healthy personal life.

I'm hoping to publish these shorter videos every second week or whenever a crisis arises.

This one was very fun to make and I think it comes trough in the video. I'm just not sure if it's shortness is going to have a lasting negative effect on the channel. I really hope not, because I simply cannot produce a 10-minute video each and every single week.

I will also use this opportunity to reflect a bit on my channel. I don't like my first videos. I know they were trying to be good, but in my eyes, they just aren't. I know what they could have been had I only had the tools I now have. I see it all as a learning journey.

Somewhere around the first Scooby Doo dollify video, I started liking what I do. It can still be way better, but it had crossed the line between blah and watchable. From the beginning, I strived to make every video at least a bit better than the previous one. Sometimes it worked, other times it didn't, but on average I think the videos became good. Now the channel is one I would personally subscribe to. And that makes me really happy :)

Batman dollify

This one was so much more work than originally planned. My mistake. I should have foreseen that I will want to implement a digital download for it, that there will be a problem with the printer, with the upload, download, verification and that the car would break down once again.

Ok, maybe that last one isn't on me, but the others are. Maybe this time I'll learn to plan for difficulties EVERYWHERE.
